Prickly Pear

Prickly Pear is a member of the Opuntioid cacti cactus family native to America. It was introduced by the first settlers around 1788. It is a drought resistant succulent that rapidly invades our natural areas and rangelands pushing out native vegetation.

Prickly Pear is a declared pest under the State Biosecurity and Agricultural Act 2007 plus a federally listed Weed of National Significance. Declared pest plants threaten agriculture and our environment and land owners, or managers, have a legal responsibility to manage these plants.
