What it means to be a ratepayer

Being a property owner in the City of Greater Geraldton requires the payment of rates each year. Your rates provide Council with the revenue needed to manage all the services and facilities which make the City a vibrant and attractive city to live in.

Each financial year – as our City needs change – a new budget is prepared to support the needs of the entire community.

Rates are issued by the City each financial year. Your rate notice will be sent to you in July following the budget adoption process.

Have your say on proposed rates

Each year, the City advertises and encourages feedback on its plans for the future.  Ratepayers are encouraged to take the opportunity to comment on and plans for the future which may have implications on the rates imposed and services provided.

Rates 2022/2023

The 2022/2023 budget reflects the City's commitment to providing and maintaining City services and amenities which the community asks for, while continuing to deliver it's core business.  This year has seen state rental valuations increase by 20%, which is a reflection of the bolstered property market with the City reducing the rate in the dollar to once again keep rate increases to all time lows, which is part of Council's ongoing commitment to the community.  Aggregate rates will rise only 4.4% this financial year, and minimum payments will remain the same at $1027.

All rate accounts are calculated by multiplying the property’s Gross Rental Value (GRV), which is supplied by Landgate, by the rate in the dollar which is set by the City at the annual budget meeting.

Rate Categories

The City of Greater Geraldton has merged Residential and Non-Residential into one rating category for all GRV rated property.  The 2022/2023 rating categories are:
