What it means to be a ratepayer
Being a property owner in the City of Greater Geraldton requires the payment of rates each year. Your rates provide Council with the revenue needed to manage all the services and facilities which make the City a vibrant and attractive city to live in.
Each financial year – as our City needs change – a new budget is prepared to support the needs of the entire community.
Rates are issued by the City each financial year. Your rate notice will be mailed to you in July following the budget adoption process.
Have your say on proposed rates
Each year, the City advertises and encourages feedback on its plans for the future. The City also advertises for comment on or about its proposed differential rates from the annual budgeting process. Ratepayers are encouraged to take the opportunity to study and comment on these important documents as both have implications on the rates imposed and services provided.
Rates 2021/2022
The 2021/2022 budget reflects the City's commitment to providing and maintaining City services and amenities, while continuing to deliver our core business. This budget is about getting back to basics and keeping rate rises low. It responds to the impacts of the global COVID-19 pandemic and Cyclone Seroja disaster. Aggregate rates will rise only 1.75% this financial year, and minimum payments to $1027.
All rate accounts are calculated by multiplying the property’s Gross Rental Value (GRV), which is supplied by Landgate, by the rate in the dollar which is set by the City at the annual budget meeting.
Rate Categories
The City of Greater Geraldton have three differential rate categories:
- Residential - any GRV rated property that is used for residential purposes
- Non-Residential - any GRV rated property that is used for non-residential purposes
- UV - all UV rated property used primarily for rural, farming or mining purposes.
