Mitigating Coastal Climate Change

In December 2020, Council declared a Climate Emergency and committed to addressing climate change by moving towards a net zero emissions for our operations by 2030. With this declaration the City joined 40 other Local Governments in Western Australia, representing 65% of the State's population, that have declared a climate emergency.

Since then, the Council has approved a Climate Change Policy, a Coastal Adaptation Policy and adopted a Net Zero Climate Mitigation Plan.

Background

Over the past ten years the City has undertaken a number of initiatives to study how climate change is impacting our community and developed plans to help mitigate the impacts along our coast.
