Coastal hazards and climate change
In December 2020, Council declared a Climate Emergency and committed to addressing climate change by moving towards a net zero emissions for our operations by 2030. With this declaration the City joined 40 other Local Governments in Western Australia, representing 65% of the State's population, that have declared a climate emergency.
Since then, the Council has approved a Climate Change Policy, a Coastal Adaptation Policy and adopted a Net Zero Climate Change Mitigation Plan.
Currently, the City is undertaking Coastal Adaptation Planning for Bluff Point. More on the project here
Background
Over the past ten years the City has undertaken a number of initiatives to study how climate change is impacting our coastal community and developed plans to help adapt to the impacts of climate change.
