Project FAQs
Why are the streetlight poles being replaced?
Following condition assessments undertaken in late 2025, 41 streetlight poles were found to have reached their end of life. Due to climate conditions streetlight poles in the City have an approximate 20 year lifespan. To ensure community safety they are being replaced. The new streetlight poles were recently delivered and are now ready for installation.
Will the works involve any road or carpark closures?
No, Foreshore Dive and the Francis Street Carpark will remain open to vehicle traffic during the works. To ensure community safety, parking bays adjacent to each light pole will be temporarily closed during the works.
Will the works impact pedestrian access to businesses?
No, pedestrian access to businesses along Foreshore Drive will not be impacted. To ensure safety temporary fencing around light poles being replaced will be in place.
What time of day will crews be working?
Works will take place on weekdays from Xam to Xpm. The early start will help minimise impact on parking and the community.
How much is the project expected to cost?
The City has allocated $600,000 to undertake the works. The project is 100% funded through the City’s asset renewals program. The City has allocated $29.8 million in the 2025/26 Budget to renew its existing assets which includes roads, drainage, paths, bridges, buildings, plant fleet, coastal infrastructure, parks, open spaces, recreational assets, the airport and lights. Renewing assets is an integral part of providing services to the community.
