Community Development

The City of Greater Geraldton recognises the significant contribution that community groups and individuals play in the livability and vibrancy of the City, and provides practical support through its various programs, advocacy and grant opportunities. The City will address and respond to all reasonable community enquires and can provide advice and support and has designated staff to liaise with in the areas of Youth, Seniors, Aboriginal development, Arts & Culture, Sports and Recreation, Disability, Neighbourhood development, Multicultural development and Community events.

City Funding Opportunities

The City regularly supports Community groups and offers 2 funding program opportunities for community projects.

Applications for our Community Grants program is available annually for amounts up to $20,000 with closing dates in September each year.

Applications through the Community Grants Project Support Program are open throughout the year. Requests for funding are capped at $2,000.  Once the budget allocation has been expended for the financial year, no further funding will be approved through the Community Grants Project Support Program. 

For minor amounts to be considered from the Mayoral Discretionary Fund please contact the Executive Support staff in the first instance.

The City will consider requests to provide Letters of Support for Community groups seeking funding from other parties providing the project aligns with the City of Greater Geraldton Strategic Plan and does not have any adverse effects on the City or other community organisations. Community Facilities

The City of Greater Geraldton has a number of community facilities that are available for use. Each facility has capacity to cater for a range of activities, programs and functions and are suitable for providing community services including leisure activities, youth and seniors programs. Some venues are managed by community organisations however we also welcome enquiries to the City to discuss how we can best accommodate ongoing activities and programs. Community Group Support & Training  

The City can provide advice in the management of associations and periodically provides various development workshop sessions in the of areas of association governance, volunteering, fundraising, marketing and promoting through social media.
