Select students from local high schools will spend the next nine weeks learning valuable skills as part of the Passport 2 Employment Class of 2023.

The program, which commenced this week, sees the group of Year 11 and 12 students participating in specifically designed sessions to prepare them for entering the workforce.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn was excited to see the latest class of young people step into their own.

“For five years now, Passport 2 Employment has been giving students a fresh look at what can await them once they graduate school,” he said.

“Not only does it expose students to exciting new fields that are available on our doorstep, but it also equips them with the skills needed to take that step into the workforce.

“I’m excited to see where this next batch of young people go!”

The program is offered to students who have been identified as benefitting from extra education and support as they prepare to graduate from high school.

Participating schools include Champion Bay Senior High School, Geraldton Senior High School, Holland Street School and Nagle Catholic College.

The nine-week program includes site visits to venues throughout the City, as well as a series of engaging workshops designed to improve confidence.

The program is a collaborative effort involving Central Regional TAFE, Mid West Ports Authority, Jobs and Skills Centre and the City of Greater Geraldton.
