Term four just got a bit more thrilling for young people who are keen to get active, with the City of Greater Geraldton’s Game On sessions set to launch later this month.

Comprising of weekly Pickleball and Volleyball sessions across eight weeks, Game On is targeted at young people aged 12-15 who may not typically gravitate towards sports.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said it was the perfect opportunity to get active without the pressure that comes with traditional sports.

“Game On will provide an inclusive atmosphere, encouraging teamwork and friendly competition,” he said.

“Plus there will be music, snacks, and a vibrant social setting, making it a fantastic way to learn the importance of an active lifestyle.

“There are two sports to choose from and registration is free, so I encourage young people to put their hand up and give it a crack!”

Game On offers participants two types of sport to choose from, with Pickleball commencing on Wednesday 18 October and Beach Volleyball on Friday 20 October.

Pickeball is a type of indoor tennis that uses widened paddles and softer balls, making the focus on skill rather than power.

Beach Volleyball will be played on the courts at the newly reopened Aquarena outdoor swimming pool.

Registrations to each free eight-week program are now open via Eventbrite.

This program has been made possible by funding from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.
