Department of Communities continue QEII Centre support

Seniors and community members will continue to enjoy services from the popular QEII Seniors and Community Centre thanks to a vital funding announcement from the Department of Communities.

Older adults from across the region attend various programs, events and support groups at the centre, and the renewed boost of $130,372 will ensure those services are still available.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn thanked the state government for their support.

“We are extremely grateful for the Department of Communities continued funding of the QEII Centre – a hub for older adults to access physical, mental and emotional support,” he said.

“Each week hundreds of seniors and community members walk through the building’s doors to have a conversation over a cuppa, participate in an activity such as Friendship Group and to just get out of the house for a few hours and see some friendly faces.

“The QEII Centre is an important part of our community and because of the Department of Communities’ funding it will remain that way.”

The funding agreement between the state government and City will run from 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2021.

The QEII Centre is open Monday to Friday from 8am until 4.30pm and has various programs running each day.

The Centre closed for a number of weeks due to COVID-19 restrictions, but a number of programs have now been reinstated.

Informal visits are not permitted at this time and seniors must book to attend programs and activities by calling the centre.
