ArtDrive takes break

ArtDrive will take a hiatus due to a low level of community responses that made the drive lack the diversity it has become well-known for says Mayor Shane Van Styn.

Expressions of interest were called for in April, however, the 30 applicants required to continue the popular initiative weren’t received.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said that while there would be no ArtDrive this year, there are still lots of other artistic opportunities on offer.

“It’s definitely disappointing that we didn’t get the positive response about ArtDrive that we had in previous years, however, the City still have great public art initiatives in the pipeline and on the go,” he said.

“Currently we have expressions of interest open for a new project – the Christmas Tree Trail – and will have more later in the year.

“I hope that ArtDrive can come back in the future because people in our community and state absolutely love it.”

While ArtDrive is on a break there will still be a number of opportunities for community members and artists to showcase their creativity.

Expressions of interest are currently open for the Christmas Tree Trail and close on Wednesday 6 June.

Members of the community can view some of the ArtDrive entries from previous years as they are still on display throughout the region.
