Seniors in Geraldton will soon be able to enjoy the health benefits of walking football as the QEII Seniors and Community Centre adds it to their activity list.

Walking football has gained recent popularity after the Federal Government committed $2 million to the activity to encourage more seniors to get active.

Football West officially launched walking football in Geraldton during Seniors Week 2018 with positive feedback from seniors.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn encouraged local seniors to give the activity a go.

“Not only do activities such as walking football promote a healthy lifestyle physically and mentally, but it also promotes an inclusive environment for our local seniors,” he said.

“We would love for seniors to come down and have a go to help stay active and meet new friends.

“This activity is just another way that the QEII Centre is promoting active, positive and healthy ageing in our community.”

Walking football will commence at the QEII Seniors and Community Centre on Wednesday 13 February at 1pm. Cost is $4 per person.

It will continue as a weekly activity every Wednesday.

More than 3,500 people attend the QEII Seniors and Community Centre every month and participate in over 35 programs and activities with everything from sports, arts, games and music.
