Exciting times are ahead for the Westend Development as the City of Greater Geraldton extends a helping hand by waiving car parking bay requirements for the project.

The Westend Development which includes the heritage listed Radio Theatre was recently acquired by Margland Pty Ltd who have been the recipients of a generous $5million grant under the State Government’s Investment Attraction Fund as well as a further $250,000 through the Regional Development Scheme to redevelop the area.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Jerry Clune welcomed Council’s decision.

“Committing our rate payers funds is not something that we as a local government enter into without significant thought and deliberation,” he said.

“The developers have an impressive body of work behind them, and we are doing all we can to help them improve this beloved and historical part of our City.

“The proposed Westend Development is an undertaking that will not only enhance the liveability of Geraldton as well as stimulating the economy it will also make us more enticing to visitors.”

City of Greater Geraldton Council took the decision at the Ordinary Meeting of Council on Tuesday 27 February 2024 to fund 24 car parking bays for the Westend Development at a cost of $576,000.

“I look forward to seeing our community enjoy the improvements that have been put forward by the developer and the state to activate this area.” Mayor Clune added.
