FOGO - Food Organic Garden Organic - Trial
In June 2019, Council made the decision to conduct a Food Organic and Garden Organic (FOGO) waste trial in response to growing community interest in reducing waste. With recycling and waste modelling suggesting a significant portion, approximately 40%, of the rubbish in resident's bins is made up of FOGO waste, this is the obvious place to start reducing waste to landfill. Since early 2020, the FOGO waste kerbside collection trial involving 500 randomly selected residential properties has been underway. Trial participants were delivered a 240litre, lime green lidded rubbish bin for the weekly collection of all FOGO waste and a kitchen caddy to collect FOGO waste in their home and transport to their FOGO bin. The FOGO bin and kitchen caddy were free for trial participants.
Due to challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic, in May 2022 Council decided to extend the trial an additional 12 months. More here
Since then, organic waste separation has increased and FOGO bin contamination has decreased. More here
