After eight months of construction, Stage Two of the revitalisation of Spalding is complete, and the new AMC Park and renovated Mitchell Street Community Centre are once again open to the community.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Jerry Clune said he’s very pleased to see the community’s ideas to revive the area have finally come to life.

“It is fantastic to see the Mitchell Street Community Centre has received a new lease on life and AMC Park now has something for everyone,” he said.

“It’s been very satisfying to watch the AMC Park Masterplan that was developed by local community members of all ages and backgrounds finally become reality.

“I’d like to thank the State Government and Lotterywest for their generous grant funding to revitalise the heart of the suburb which is pumping new life into the area.”

Visitors to the Centre will find the interior has been reconfigured so the function room opens onto a veranda overlooking the park, the kitchen and toilets are renovated and now fully accessible and the new carpark is paved and has additional ACROD bays.

AMC Park has been completely transformed and now features water play for younger children, a flying fox for the more adventurous, a multiuse court for sports enthusiasts, barbeques and covered picnic tables, public toilets, a bush tucker garden, yarning circle and much, much more.

New roads have also been built including an extension of Robinson Street from Mitchell Street to Broome Street which connects to Bogle Way and Sullivan Court and Bogle way also connects directly onto Mitchell Street.

“These new roads are making it much easier for community members to walk, ride or drive to the Centre and visit the park,” Mayor Clune added.

“All of these incredible changes are adding new life to the suburb and will hopefully be the catalyst for further developments and private investment in the area.”

The $6.65 million project was joint funded with State Government providing $4.9 million, Lotterywest $1,445,572 and the City contributing the remainder.

Stage Two revitalisation of Spalding was part of the State Government’s $9 million Spalding Regional Renewal Project that saw the removal of a number of aged public houses on Bogle Way and Sullivan Court, the refurbishment of other public housing on these streets and the creation of new road connections and the beautifying the area.
