WWI Memorial Concert

Past Event

The WWI Memorial Concert in the St Francis Xavier Cathedral will commemorate the Armistice of WWI. The Cathedral has many connections to WWI including the Crypt Chapel, stained glass windows and other features which are dedicated to fallen soldiers.

The first stage of St Francis Xavier Cathedral, designed by Monsignor John Hawes, was completed in 1918 and shares its 100th anniversary with the end of WWI.

The WWI Memorial Concert will be a special evening of Remembrance as we celebrate this important centenary. Segments of the concert will focus on the fallen soldiers listed on the honour Boards in the crypt of the Cathedral as well as the story of a bugle belonging to 19 year old Geraldton man Roy Thompson who was killed three days after the landing at Anzac Cove.

From 6:30pm the Geraldton City Band will entertain guests with WWI-era music with pre-concert light refreshments in the forecourt.
The concert will commence promptly at 7:30pm with the 11th Battalion AIF March-In and Mounting of the Catafalque.
The musical program will feature performances by internationally acclaimed artists Yoram Levy, Principal Trumpet of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra; renowned Soprano Katja Webb; Organist Jacinta Jakocevic, Director of Music at St Mary’s Cathedral Perth, along with the Geraldton Choral Society presenting “In Flanders Fields” and “We Will Remember Them’.
The concert will conclude on a moving but uplifting note.

Seating is unreserved, capacity seating inside the Cathedral will apply, please purchase your ticket early to secure your seats.
Tickets are available from the Civic Centre, Geraldton Regional Library, the Visitor Centre and ONLINE.
