WoW Fest shines over Easter long weekend

It is estimated more than 12,000 people flocked to the Foreshore over the Easter long weekend for the City of Greater Geraldton’s second Wind on Water Festival.

The community is still buzzing from the two-day event which saw an amazing line-up of activities along the Foreshore, culminating in the RedFM WoW Fest concert featuring The Temper Trap and Tkay Maidza.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said he was blown away with the event’s success.

“This is the second year we have held this signature event and it has gotten bigger and better,” he said.

“With more than 12,000 people gracing our stunning Foreshore over the two days, we also had more than a thousand enjoy the RedFM WoW Fest Concert.

“We really couldn’t be happier with the event. With amazing weather, no major incidents and so many smiling faces, we’re already planning for next year!

“A big thank you goes out to our community for supporting this amazing event.”

WoW Fest kicked off on Saturday 20 April with highlights including giant kites, sand sculpture, a roving kinetic sculpture, giant snails Celeste and Galileo, performances from local talent on the emerging artist’s stage and a packed-out silent disco.

Hundreds lined the beach for Creative Euphorium’s sunset entertainment and an Ultimate Watersports show on Saturday. The night concluded with a mesmerising fireworks show sponsored by Red Dust Holdings.

Sunday brought back the family favourites with the addition of Geraldton Regional Art Gallery’s plastic fantastic, a Svitzer Tug Boat display and a pumping concert.

DJ Sunday Best opened the gig, followed by hip-hop performers W3 Were Here and DJ Amod3us.

Pocket rocket Tkay Maidza got the crowd excited with an energetic performance.

The Temper Trap put on a captivating performance, closing the show with a crowd favourite – Sweet Disposition.

The Aussie rockers spoke highly of Geraldton, describing it as a friendly City with a beautiful natural landscape.

The band enjoyed a flight over the Pink Lake and landed on the Abrolhos with thanks to Shine Aviation.
