Vote now in the upcoming local election

If you haven’t already received your election pack in the mail, you soon will and community members are reminded to make their vote count.

While the local government election day will take place on Saturday 16 October, people are urged to return their voting ballots as soon as possible.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn encouraged everyone to make sure they submitted their vote.

“We know how passionate our community is and we hope you will take the time to vote for the people who play a pivotal role in making decisions,” he said.

“By voting in the upcoming election, ratepayers and residents can contribute to effective local government by having a voice in determining who will represent them.

“Council makes big decisions for our community from providing significant services through to community infrastructure – so please find out more about who you are voting for, and make your vote count.”

The terms of seven council members are ending with seven positions on council becoming available.

Voting packs have now been lodged and electors should be receiving them very soon. Each person enrolled to vote will be issued a ballot package by mail which will provide details and instructions on how to vote.

All ballot papers must be returned by 6pm on Saturday 16 October 2021 to be included in the count for the election.

Ballots can be returned in the reply paid envelope by mail by Tuesday 12 October or hand delivered to the City of Greater Geraldton Civic Centre or the Mullewa District Office, during business hours, prior to election day.

They can also be hand delivered to the Civic Centre on election day prior to the 6pm close of poll.

Community members are encouraged to get their votes in as early as possible.

If you don't receive a ballot paper by 12 October, or make a mistake with the ballot paper mailed out to you, then head to the Civic Centre on Cathedral Avenue to be issued a new one. The ballot paper mailed out to you will be cancelled so there is no risk of your vote being counted twice.
