Time to recognise our local legends

Do you know someone who goes above and beyond to support our community?

Residents are being encouraged to shine a light on individuals and groups whose actions make Greater Geraldton a better place by nominating them for the 2027 Community Citizen of the Year Awards.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Jerry Clune is calling on locals to acknowledge the efforts of individuals and groups whose contributions often happen behind the scenes.

"Every day there are people quietly making a difference through volunteering, leadership, mentoring and being the instruments of positive change,” he said.

"The Citizenship Awards are a chance to recognise and celebrate these local champions who give their time and energy to strengthen our community.

“If you know someone who goes that extra mile, then now is the time to make sure they get the recognition they deserve.”

Delivered by Auspire – Australia Day Council of Western Australia, nominees and winners will be recognised at Australia Day events in Geraldton and Mullewa on Tuesday 26 January 2027.

Categories for the Awards in both Geraldton and Mullewa include:

  • Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals over 16 years)
  • Young Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals aged 16-30 years)
  • Senior Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals aged 65 years and over)
  • Active Citizenship (for community groups or events)

Nominations are open until 31 October 2026 and can be easily submitted online at www.citizenshipawards.com.au/nominate/

Last year’s award winners included Lorraine Chapman, Walkaway Community Group, Mina Elliott and Rohan Prowse along with Mullewa recipients Peter and Beverley Crudeli.

Support for the Community Citizen of the Year Awards aligns with the Connected theme of the City’s Strategic Community Plan and reflect the organisation's commitment to celebrating our community through programs, initiatives and events that build social connections.
