Survey to identify air travel demand

With only three scheduled flights to Geraldton from Perth, the Geraldton and Midwest community are being asked to take a survey to determine the preferred schedule demand for air travel in the Midwest in the aim to secure a more reliable and suitable schedule of flights.

The short survey which is now live is a collaborative effort between the City of Greater Geraldton, Mid West Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MWCCI) and Mid West Development Commission (MWDC).

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said it was crucial to get a true indication of the demand for air travel in order to negotiate an increase in flights and offer more options.

“The City, MWCCI and MWDC have been working with Qantas and the Department of Transport to increase the number of flights to people flying in and out of Geraldton,” he said.

“We’re urging the community and business owners to take this survey in order for us to gauge the demand and provide accurate data to the decision makers.

“As a regional capital, Geraldton is continuing to cement itself a destination of choice - but we need to have realistic options for people to fly in and out of Geraldton and it’s critical for flight services to change in order to ensure the growth and sustainability of the Midwest.”

The survey asks respondents about their preferred departure days and times and if COVID-19 has affected their flying options.

The current analysis comes after a survey which was released in March this year which saw an Air Access Stakeholder Group made up of representatives from the City, MWCCI and Broadwater Hospitality Group, work with Qantas, Tourism WA and the Department of Transport to workshop solutions to reduce the cost of flights for residents and visitors, and to increase frequency and connectivity.

The survey is now live and will be open until 21 August 2020. You can take the survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/QFFFWYD
