Gather up your crew and practice your best tricks, because a skateboarding competition is coming to town and its set to be a whole lot of fun.

The inaugural Eighth Street Skate Comp will see teams of three compete in a series of sessions to take out the skateboarding crown and claim $300 cash.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn encouraged riders to start practicing their moves.

“There’s lots of talented skateboarders who carve up Wonthella Skatepark and we want them to come together to show off their skills and moves collectively,” he said.

“Grab your friends or people you have seen skate before and get involved in this awesome competition that’s bound to be a lot of fun.

“Don’t worry about your age, gender or skillset – come together for the skate comp and have some fun.”

Teams will be judged on their style and creativity, as each team member competes in a 40 second expression session followed by a 10 minute jam session. Teams will be encouraged to air, carve, flip, grind, ollie and more.

The event will take place on Saturday 10 November at 4pm at the Wonthella Skatepark on Eighth Street. The winning team will claim $300 cash and the runner up group will secure $150.

The Eight Street Skate Comp is open to all ages, skill levels and genders. Spaces are strictly limited and registrations are essential.
