The Queens Park Theatre (QPT) has been named as a finalist in this year’s 2018 Performing Arts Connections (PAC) Australia Drover Award for ‘Performing Arts Centre of the Year’.

Recognising excellence in the field of regional touring, the awards acknowledge the companies that are committed to delivering performances to the millions of audiences in communities across Australia.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said the QPT was continuing to be a leader in the arts in the Midwest.

“A strategic re-focus with the help and support of CircuitWest and PAC in recent years has seen the QPT flourish more than ever with a renewed commitment to bringing high-quality entertainment to the Midwest,” he said.

“As well as bringing acts from all over the world, the QPT has a strong focus on communicating with their audience through a number of different methods to ensure audiences remain engaged and connected to the content.

“Steered by a very dedicated in-house team, the QPT will continue to be a leader in bringing world-class entertainment to the region and it’s great to see that we are being recognised for this.”

QPT was one of four finalists for the award up against Bendigo’s Capital Venues and Events, Geelong Performing Arts Centre and Orange Civic Theatre.

PAC Australia’s Drovers Awards recognise not only the operational commitment required, but also the artistic determination to ensure that regional audiences have the opportunity to experience the calibre of work available to capital city audiences.

PAC Australia is the national peak body representing and supporting performing arts presenters.

The winners will be announced on Thursday 6 September in the Pilbara town of Cossack as the closing celebration of the 32nd annual PAC Australia conference; Making Space.
