Graduating students from the 2026 Passport 2 Employment program have been celebrated after successfully completing the six-week course designed to build confidence and employment readiness.
Now in its seventh year, the award-winning initiative brought together six local year 10, 11 and 12 students with varying abilities to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to navigate life beyond school.
Since launching in 2019, more than 98 students with disabilities have been supported as they transition towards employment and further education opportunities.
Throughout the program, students participated in workshops, site visits and hands-on learning experiences focused on resume writing, job applications, interview preparation, presentation skills, health and wellbeing and everyday life skills that contribute to workplace readiness.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Jerry Clune commended this year's graduates on their commitment and personal growth.
"Over the past six weeks, these young people have embraced new challenges, developed valuable skills and built confidence in their future,” he said
"One of the most rewarding aspects of the program is seeing students discover their strengths and recognise the opportunities available to them beyond school.
“Congratulations to every student in this year’s class who is about to embark on the next stage of their journey.
“We wish them every success and look forward to seeing the positive contributions they will make across the Midwest and beyond,” he added.
The program is delivered by the City in collaboration with local schools and community partners, including APM, Mid West Ports Authority, TAFE, Workpower and other stakeholders.
Participating in this year’s program were Nagle Catholic College and Geraldton Flexible School.
Passport 2 Employment forms part of the City's Access and Inclusion Plan 2024-2029 and aligns with the Connected theme of the City’s Strategic Community Plan which reflects the organisation’s commitment to an inclusive City.
