Geraldton’s new theatre production has received a financial boost, after securing funding that will help develop and deliver the performance.

The production has been named a recipient of the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries’ Raise the Roof program, attaining $160,000.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said it was a big win.

“Securing this funding is a massive victory and will allow the City and Queens Park Theatre to progress our new theatre work, which focuses on Geraldton and its unique characteristics,” he said.

“This is such an exciting opportunity for Geraldton, especially if the production tours nationally, that can provide new job, education, tourism and economic development opportunities.

“A big thank you to the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries for their generous funding.”

The funding will also be used to help diversify the Queens Park Theatre’s programming for 2019/20 and help attract new audiences to the entertainment venue.

Last month international director and writer Chris Edmund visited Geraldton to start developing the script for the new theatre work. He will spend the next four to six months developing the script and capturing the essence of Geraldton.
