Mountain bike facilities in Spalding Park have only just been completed and they are already being described as awesome, wicked and the best thing north of the Geraldton CBD.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said the community couldn’t wait to try out the new facilities.
“Lots of community members closely watched the construction of the jump lines and pump and jump track over the past months,” he said.
“When they were finally completed just a few weeks ago, we couldn’t keep them out any longer so we opened up the area just in time for the July school holidays whilst works on the skills track and the formalisation of the 11km long loop trail along the Chapman River were still underway.
“Since then, the popularity of the pump and jump track and jump lines has been steadily growing.
“Not even bad weather can keep people away as you still see people of all ages and skill levels from beginners to highly experienced riders lining up at the top of the hill to take their turn on the tracks in the rain.”
The skills track and loop trail were only completed just over a week ago and have already been added to the list of community assets that promote a healthy lifestyle and contribute to recreation based tourism.
“Riding a bike is great form of exercise and to ensure riders of all levels can enjoy the two-way traffic loop trail it’s been constructed for recreational level cycling,” said Mayor Van Styn.
“Thanks to all the positive community feedback posted on social media in the last few weeks about the new facilities avid mountain bike riders from Perth are already coming to Geraldton to try out the new tracks and trails.”
The $349,500 Chapman River Regional Park Mountain Bike Trails project was jointly funded with $235,500 being provided by the State Government Regional Grants Scheme project managed by the Mid West Development Commission, $65,000 from Lotterywest and the City contributing $49,000.
The official opening of the facilities will take place at a later date.
