New Geraldton Jobs and Growth Plan a shared vision for growth

Boosting jobs, population and economic growth in the region are the intended outcomes of the recently released Geraldton Jobs and Growth Plan 2020-2023.

The Geraldton Jobs and Growth Plan continues a collaborative approach, under the umbrella of Progress Midwest, to growing the region's capital through a shared vision.

The Plan is an update of the successfully implemented Growth Plan released in 2017.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor and Progress Midwest Chair Shane Van Styn said he was excited to see regional stakeholders come together to deliver a unified plan for the economic growth of the capital of the Midwest.

“It is a very important time for Geraldton to have a shared vision for growth and by growing the regional centre we will grow the region,” he said.

“There were some game-changing outcomes from the previous Growth Plan so we’re looking forward to working with our key stakeholders to implement the next round of outcomes from the new Plan.

“The unified approach has seen cooperation stronger than ever and we understand our individual roles and responsibilities, both collectively and independently, and we now have a detailed outline of projects for the next three years.”

Outcomes from the previous Growth Plan include success in CBD revitalisation such as the Rocks Laneway Project and a huge increase of tourism in the region.

The Plan also aims for Geraldton to have strong and sustainable population growth.

As well as a list of ‘game changers’, the Plan outlines a series of actions, timeframes and measures of progress.

“We’ve worked extremely hard to ensure documents like this aren’t static and that there are stakeholders who are accountable for their part in bringing this shared vision to life,” Mayor Van Styn added.

“We’re really trying to facilitate drive and align regional effort and resources through collaboration.

“As a City, we’re proud that we’ve initiated this collaborative effort and I look forward to sharing the outcomes with our community.”

Progress Midwest partners include the City of Greater Geraldton, Mid West Ports, Mid West Development Commission, Pollinators, Tourism Geraldton, Midwest Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Regional Development Australia Mid West Gascoyne, Geraldton Universities Centre and Midwest Horticulture Growers Group.
