Local legends have been praised for their involvement in the Geraldton and Mullewa communities at yesterday’s Australia Day celebrations.
The Community Citizen of the Year Award – Citizen of the Year was presented to Geraldton’s Lisa Bickley for her efforts in keeping the environment rubbish free.
Just east in Mullewa, the same award was given to dual winners in husband and wife duo David and Cindy Goodwin for their involvement in St John’s Ambulance and Glen Bryant for his commitment and support to the local community.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn congratulated the winners.
“We have some remarkable people in our community and I’m thrilled to put them in the limelight and say thank you,” he said.
“From collecting rubbish every weekend to helping those in need – humans and animals alike – we have people that just give and give and give for nothing in return.
“This special ceremony on Australia Day is about recognising their efforts and all that they do for our community.”
The Australia Day WA Active Citizen of the Year Awards were presented to the following individuals and groups in Geraldton and Mullewa:
Geraldton:
- Community Citizen of the Year (Overall) – Lisa Bickley
- Active Citizenship Award (Group) – Geraldton Dog Rescue
- Senior of the Year – Paul Dodson
- Young Citizen of the Year – Lillyan Treasure
Mullewa:
- Community Citizen of the Year (Overall) - Glen Bryant
- Community Citizen of the Year (Overall) – David and Cindy Goodwin
- Senior of the Year – Pat Weir
- Young Citizen of the Year – Riley Curtis
The Australia Day WA Active Citizen of the Year Awards are supported by Auspire and the Australia Day Council WA.
“Thank you to everyone who attended our Australia Day commemorations and supported the local musicians and food truck owners,” Mayor Van Styn added.
“All attendees appreciated and respected the need for COVID-19 compliance.”
