Community members are invited to help shape the future of the Maitland Park Schools Precinct, with feedback now being sought on concept designs for the area, including two proposed streetscape scenarios.
Funded entirely by the Australian Government, the Maitland Park Green Connect planning project aims to make the area safer and easier to get around, ease traffic congestion and transform underused public spaces into a greener, cooler and more vibrant place for the community.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Jerry Clune encouraged residents, park users, schoolteachers, students and their parents to review the designs and provide feedback.
“More than 3,000 students visit the five schools surrounding Maitland Park daily and this number is increasing,” he said.
“Geraldton is no longer the town it was decades ago and we need a schools precinct with well-designed streets and pedestrian crossings, sufficient parking and designated student pick-up and drop off areas.
“Otherwise, traffic congestion will continue to pose serious safety concerns for students, their families and the people who live, work and visit the area.
"The Concept Design and streetscape options explore opportunities to improve how people move through the precinct. They also reimagine Maitland Park as a vibrant community destination that encourages recreation, gatherings and everyday use by residents and visitors.
“Community safety will always be a top priority for Council and Maitland Park is an important community asset, so we look forward to hearing from our community about how the park and surrounding streets could evolve,” added Mayor Clune.
Feedback received during the consultation period will help guide future planning and design considerations.
No commitments have been made by Council to fund construction works associated with this planning project.

- Wednesday 29 July 2026 from 2:30-5:30pm Civic Centre – 63 Cathedral Avenue
- Sunday 2 August 2026 from 8am-12pm at the Platform Markets
