Geraldton was exclusively chosen as one of five destinations in the nation to be included in a report commissioned by the Australia-China Council as a successful case study.

Seizing Opportunities Together discusses the benefits of sister city relationships between China and Australia and reviews the work completed by the City of Darwin, Greater Geraldton, Hobart, Melbourne and Warrnambool.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said all of Geraldton’s efforts to build the China market was reflected in the case study.

“Tourism and investment in our region has increased significantly over the past few years and part of that is to do with the outstanding work our Economic Development team do here at the City,” he said.

“One of the key projects that was highlighted in the report was the delivery of the China Connect website, which has enabled bilateral trade and commerce in both Geraldton and China.

“We should be very proud of where Geraldton is benchmarked and what the future looks like.”

Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) produced the report, which uses data from a national survey as well as information from the five involved locations such as management structures, key activities, best practices, benefits for the local community and challenges faced.
