This weekend sees emergency response units from around the region gather at the Geraldton Airport for a Simulated Emergency Incident.
The simulation takes place every two years, and requires emergency services to respond to a plane crash scenario.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said it was an important exercise that increases emergency services’ skillset.
“It’s great that we can bring emergency response units from around the region together through this training and identify potential problems and solutions in a crisis,” he said.
“The full field training involves an aircraft making a forced landing due to an engine failure.
“Emergency response units will be required to respond to injured and deceased passengers, fires and unstable structures in a high-pressure and stressful environment.”
The Simulated Emergency Incident aligns with the State Air Crash Emergency Management Plan. Conducting the training allows the Airport to maintain Emergency Response Accreditation under the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA).
The City of Greater Geraldton would like to thank all the organisations involved as well as the community members partaking in the training as victims.
