Winter has arrived and that means it time to grab your boxes and head to the Community Nursery for the annual End of Year Plant sale on Saturday 25 June 2022.

Every year, local native seedlings grown by Community Nursery volunteers that weren’t required for revegetation projects on coastal and inland reserves go on sale to the public.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said it will be first in best dressed on the day.

“Previously, it only took an hour or so till the nursery sold out,” he said.

“I strongly advise anyone who interested in greening up their yard this winter to get there when the gates at 31 Adelaide Street in Waggrakine open at 8am.”

Plant purchases can be made with either cash or EFTPOS, enclosed shoes are essential and don’t forget to bring a box or bag to carry your plants home before the gates close at 11am.

This year, Community Nursery Volunteers grew 20,000 seedlings of which more than 17,000 have been allocated for planting throughout the City region.

Since 2012, the City and community have planted nearly 510,000 trees and shrubs and registered them towards the Million Trees project.

“Greening our City is a top community priority and last year we reached a major project milestone of 500,000 plantings,” Mayor Van Styn added.

“Together with the community, we are not only making the place we call home a better place to live, we are creating a lasting legacy for our future generations.”

Members of the community who have planted trees or shrubs in the last five years can register them towards the project on the City website here
