As if there wasn’t enough art elements happening at the Wind on Water Festival (WoW Fest) already, another initiative has just been announced and it’s got a unique recycling spin to it.
Plastic Fantastic involves the upcycling of plastic rubbish into pieces of colourful art and members of the community are invited to get involved in the process this weekend at Geraldton Regional Art Gallery and the Geraldton Foreshore.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said Plastic Fantastic was both educational and fun.
“We’re encouraging festival goers to bring their unwanted plastic items to the sessions for this engaging workshop which teaches us how to reuse items,” he said.
“Plastic Fantastic facilitators and artists Helene and Paula have created some spectacular pieces from recycled objects and I can’t wait to see what they create with the community at WoW Fest.”
Helene Offer and Paula Hart are the dynamic duo behind Plastic Fantastic, and together they have created chandeliers, arbours, decorations and loads more.
Workshops will be held on Thursday 18 to Saturday 20 April at the Geraldton Regional Art Gallery at 10am, 12pm and 2pm. On Sunday 21 April, the workshops will be moved to the Geraldton Foreshore as part of the WoW Fest celebrations and take place at the same times.
Plastic Fantastic sessions are free for all to enjoy, however, it is essential to RSVP to the Gallery via 9956 6750.
Those interested in joining in on the fun can bring old textas, plastic buttons, toys, sauce bottles, sushi trays, shampoo bottles and anything that is made from plastic.
