Temporary suspension of dog surrenders
Published on Wednesday, 12 August 2026 at 4:46:07 PM
The City of Greater Geraldton wishes to advise that no dog surrenders will be accepted at the Animal Management Facility at this time due to limited capacity with partner organisations.
Currently our partner shelters are unable to receive and rehome additional dogs, resulting in the City being unable to take on any more surrenders.
This will be reviewed on Wednesday 26 August and further community updates will be provided.
This is a timely reminder to all dog owners to understand their responsibilities as a pet owner.
Dog owners have a responsibility to exercise responsible pet ownership. This includes keeping their dog safely secured on their property, ensuring it is registered, microchipped and vaccinated, and recognising that owning a dog is a significant long-term commitment.
These measures are in place to encourage responsible pet ownership and ensure the wellbeing and safety of both animals and the community.
More information about responsible pet ownership can be found on the City’s website.
