Geraldton Basketball Stadium to open as evacuation centre

The City of Greater Geraldton wishes to advise the Department of Communities are currently setting up an evacuation centre at the Geraldton Amateur Basketball Stadium.

The Stadium located on Eighth Street in Wonthella will be opened as an evacuation centre from 10am on Friday 27 March.

Those who do not feel safe in their properties and need to evacuate can do so from the above time.

Please take bedding, hygiene products, snacks and food particularly if you have dietary requirements, any essential items such as medications and identification.

Pets (except recognised guide dogs for the blind) are not allowed inside evacuation centres for health and safety reasons, so you should make alternative arrangements for them.

Please note, the QEII Seniors and Community Centre will not be used as an evacuation centre.

Community members are also advised the Geraldton Secondary College Gymnasium is being used as a base for incoming emergency personnel, and not a community evacuation centre.

The City is working closely with relevant agencies to ensure the community is prepared for the expected conditions.
