Tender awards inject millions into local economy

Tenders recently awarded by the City to build Cell Five at the Meru Landfill Facility and to install new sports tower lighting at Alexander Park and the Greenough Oval will see a further $5.9 million injected into the local economy.

Construction of the $4.8 million cell at Meru will be undertaken by locally based contractor WBHO whilst Elite Electrical Contracting has won the $1.1 million contract to install 100-150 LUX LED light towers at the two sports fields.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said Council was very pleased to see local businesses stepping up to the plate.

“Compiling and submitting tenders is an extensive process and assessing their value takes more than just the quoted price into consideration,” he said.

“Tender assessment panels also examine the level of experience the company has in regard to similar projects, local content in terms of subcontractors, project safety management and exactly how they plan to deliver the project on time and within the budget.

“It is fantastic to see a growing number of locally based businesses throwing their hats into the ring and taking part in this highly competitive process. This has been enabling Council to award contracts to companies who not only deliver the best value for money, they also employ local people which boosts the local economy.”

Project works to install new sports lighting towers will begin in November whilst construction of Cell Five at Meru is slated to start before the end of the year.
