Narngulu to benefit from new high-speed business broadband

Reliable and high-speed business grade broadband is coming for Narngulu businesses thanks to a partnership between the City of Greater Geraldton and nbn Co that will see a new nbn Business Fibre Zone in the area.

This will mean Narngulu businesses can access business nbn™ Enterprise Ethernet with no charge from nbn Co for the design and construction, and at the equivalent wholesale price as businesses in Perth when ordering an eligible service on a three-year plan through their phone and internet provider.

Enterprise Ethernet is nbn’s fastest symmetrical wholesale product that can deliver wholesale download and upload speed tiers from 10 Mbps to close to 1 Gbps#.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said it will make life easier for Narngulu businesses.

“We are pleased to partner with nbn Co on the roll-out, which will allow those in the area to access fast and reliable internet - a non-negotiable in this day-and-age,” he said.

“Internet connectivity and reliability has been a challenge at the Bowerbird and Meru Landfill, and the area as a whole, and we have reallocated $100,000 from the budget to enable this project that will benefit City operations as well as local business owners.

“It’s a win-win for everyone - especially for local businesses as there is no upfront cost for the design and construction of the fibre to the business’s front door.”

Head of nbn Local WA Naomi Evans said the local investment would help bolster communication reliability in an area.

“Businesses are increasingly using business nbn™ Enterprise Ethernet to support cloud-based business operations, remote file storage, large file distribution and storage and to connect office locations. For decades the location of a business has been the determining factor in the price they pay for business-grade fibre,” she said.

“The new Business Fibre Zone in Narngulu helps to level the playing field, ensuring that more businesses throughout Australia can participate in the digital economy on an equal footing. It is also a demonstration of our ongoing commitment to working with local communities and increasing the digital capability of Australian businesses.

“The service is on-demand, which means businesses have to place an order for an eligible service to access it.”

It is expected the nbn™ Fibre Business Zone will be available to order through a phone and internet provider from Thursday 3 February 2022. The new Business Fibre Zone complements the existing Geraldton Business Fibre Zone.
