A substantial Lotterywest grant will support a comprehensive program of works to improve communications and stage infrastructure, ensuring the theatre continues to meet the needs of performers and audiences.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Jerry Clune said the funding was vital to maintaining the QPT’s role as the region’s premier performing arts venue.

“QPT is at the cultural heart of our community and the facility requires technical upgrades to keep delivering the show stopping productions we all love,” he said.

“These improvements will significantly enhance the Theatre’s ability to host community events, school performances, conferences and professional touring productions while also supporting more inclusive and diverse programming.

“I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Lotteywest for their continued support of our Theatre.”

The funding will enable the refurbishment of the Theatre’s technical communications systems as well as stage rigging and lighting bars, improving the safety and reliability of backstage operations for City staff and touring crews.

Local Member of the Legislative Council Hon Sandra Carr MLC was thrilled to see the grant awarded to the QPT.

“We are so lucky to have Queen’s Park Theatre, with its high technical quality, attracting touring productions from around Australia and the world to Geraldton and bringing the community together in many ways,” she said.

“Lotterywest has a unique role in supporting WA communities and I commend the City for securing this grant to enable the community to continue to enjoy this beautiful venue for years to come.”

The total values of the works is $479,935 with Lotterywest contributing $418,935 and the City the contributing the remainder.

This project aligns with the Connected theme of the City’s Strategic Community Plan which reflects the organisation’s commitment to support and celebrate the City’s diverse community through events that build social connections.
