Investment in infrastructure renewals continues in the Budget 2023/24 with over $13 million allocated to repair aged roads and footpaths as well as build new ones.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said maintaining the City’s transport infrastructure is a top priority.

“Ensuring our footpaths, sealed roads as well as unsealed roads are in top condition so that both community members and commercial users can access them safely and with ease remains of great importance to us,” he said.

“As such, we make sure that roads and footpaths are renewed every year so that we continue to deliver for the community.”

More than $9.2 million has been allocated to renew over 16kms of sealed roads, 58kms of unsealed roads and 50kms of road swales and shoulders. This includes the resurfacing of rural road intersections in both Greenough and Mullewa.

Roads WA Regional Road Group Funding Scheme will also cover over 66% of the $1.6 million allocated towards the rehabilitation and resurfacing of Place, Flores, Goulds and Nangetty-Walkaway Roads.

Over $1.8 million will be spent on the City’s footpath network, which includes construction of 1,880m of new walkways along Broome Street in Spalding, Whitworth Drive in Sunset Beach and Durlacher Street.

Replacement of paths on Brede Street, Maley Way, Queen Street and Waterfront Circle will also be undertaken.

Sustainable transport also features in the new Budget with more fleet vehicles being replaced with hybrids.

“The City’s transition away from petrol-powered vehicles began last year and we are pleased our journey towards net zero carbon emissions by 2030 remains on track with the addition of four more hybrids to our fleet,” Mayor Van Styn added.
