Come and celebrate the triumphant return of our NBL1 West legends, the Fenix Geraldton Buccaneers, with a special homecoming event!
Community members will have the chance to shoot some hoops with our local champs and commemorate the Buccs' incredible finals run and championship win.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Jerry Clune is hoping locals come out in droves to celebrate.
“It goes without saying, the Buccs have the biggest and most passionate fan base in the competition, and our community were behind our team every step of the way to the podium,” he said.
“The win was absolutely huge for Geraldton and our community have been eagerly awaiting the chance to celebrate our local champions.
“I encourage you to don your blue and gold, come along and give our local legends the reception they deserve!”
The Buccs homecoming event will take place on Wednesday 24 September from 4-6pm at the halfcourt on the Geraldton Foreshore.
Mayor Clune will officially welcome the team, and Buccs players will be in attendance with the championship trophy and flag to meet and greet fans.
Geraldton Buccaneers Coach Dayle Joseph said the championship was not just for the team, but also for the Geraldton community.
“Our fans are loyal, loud and passionate. They’re the best sixth man in the league, behind Verle Williams,” he said.
“We are very lucky to have the best crowds in the league who show up week in and week out and sometimes when we are on the road our support base out numbers the home team.
“It makes me and the club very proud of the support we get from the local community and the businesses of Geraldton.”
There will be free ice cream for the first 100 kids, activities, a chance to get photos with the players and plenty of opportunities to celebrate with the team.
