The final count down to the grand reopening of Queens Park Theatre has begun with only a few days remaining till the big event on Friday 22 July 2016.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said the much needed refurbishments to the interior and exterior of the building will greatly enhance theatre goers experience.
“Since the QPT closed in December last year the 33 year old heating ventilation and air conditioning system and asbestos roof have been replaced,” he said.
“New carpets have been installed and the bathrooms have also been renovated.
“However, as with any great theatre production, it’s what was goes on behind the scenes makes all the difference such as the installation of a new audio mixing console, cinema projector, lighting and wireless communications.
“All these changes mean the QPT is now better equipped and more accommodating for Geraldton’s vast array of talented performing artists and visiting world class touring acts we have every year,” said Mayor Van Styn.
The relaunch of QPT programming on 22 July will feature the 3 Chinese Tenors who sing in Italian, French, German, English and Chinese in one program as they take the audiences on a musical journey across cultures and time. The program features a wide range of classical opera, Neapolitan, musical theatre, and storytelling into a single evening of laughter and enjoyment.
A date for the official opening of the QPT is still being confirmed. The refurbishment of the QPT was jointly funded with $102,221 from the State Government’s Regional Venues Improvement Fund and the City contributing $4 million.
