A free food safety training session will be held for all registered and future stall holders on Thursday November 20, at the City of Greater Geraldton Function Room on Cathedral Avenue.

The session will start at 5pm and will cover topics such as how to set up on the day of an event, food safety and hygiene, and cleaning and sanitising food contact surfaces.

As more people register each year, training sessions are generally held yearly to keep stall holders up to date with recent changes in food safety and hygiene methods.

City of Greater Geraldton Manager Environmental Health and Sustainability, Mark Chadwick, said attending the training course will build public and their own confidence when it comes to food safety attitudes in the community.

“Although some people suspect they may have food poisoning, a majority of people don’t report their illness to anyone,” he said.

“It’s important that we, as a City, keep our food safety and hygiene up to standards so we can minimise food related illnesses.”

“Food businesses must also be aware about allergies and declare any ingredients used that may cause a reaction in sensitive people, such as nuts, wheat and certain colourings and preservatives which can cause great danger for the consumer,” said Mr Chadwick.

“The course aims to ensure everyone is appropriately informed about these and labelling information requirements”.

All food stall holders are encouraged to attend this event.
