Geraldton has been recognised once again for its commitment to accessibility and inclusion at the Most Accessible Communities WA Awards (MACWA).

Presented at Council House in Perth, Geraldton received a Highly Commended for both the Geraldton Youth Centre in the Major Infrastructure Projects category and the Geraldton Foreshore in the Public Open Spaces category.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Jerry Clune said the recognition reflects the City’s ongoing dedication to enhancing the region’s liveability for everyone.

"Accessibility is about creating spaces where everyone feels welcome and our new Geraldton Youth Centre and much-loved Geraldton Foreshore are fantastic examples of how we’re delivering projects that make a real difference," he said.

"These awards illustrate that our considered investment in infrastructure and public spaces is helping to break down barriers fostering inclusivity and connection.

“This is a proud moment for Geraldton, and I would like to acknowledge all the work that has gone into delivering these projects and congratulate all those involved for these well-deserved accolades.”

Opened in July of this year the Geraldton Youth Centre provides a modern and accessible facility for young people to connect and thrive.

Geraldton Foreshore is one of the Midwest’s premier attractions and continues to set the standard for inclusive public spaces with accessible pathways, amenities, beach matting and recreational areas.

Both the Geraldton Foreshore and Geraldton Youth Centre developments reflect the City’s ongoing commitment to investing in community and recreation infrastructure.

The MACWA awards are presented by the Regional Capitals Alliance WA in partnership with the Department of Communities, Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport and the WA Local Government Alliance to celebrate local governments that lead the way in creating inclusive, accessible environments for people of all abilities.
