Capped airfares between Geraldton and Perth touchdown

Capped airfares between Geraldton and Perth have officially landed, allowing residents to book one-way tickets for $199 per person through Qantas for travel next month.

The reduced prices are thanks to a partnership between the State Government and the Airline Industry called the Regional Airfare Zone Cap, which will be available to local residents for the next three years.

All that’s required to access the capped airfares is joining Qantas’ Frequent Flyer program.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn welcomed the news.

“Boarding a plane is one of the quickest ways to travel but sometimes can be costly. Capped airfares for the next three years will help regional residents enormously,” he said.

“To access the flights, Geraldton residents just need to sign into Qantas’ Frequent Flyer program on their website, select a flight from Geraldton to Perth as a return trip and the discount will appear at the check-out, subject to seat availability.

“This really is a fantastic initiative that is increasing connectivity as well as accessibility across Western Australia. It makes travel a whole lot easier and affordable.”

Member for Geraldton Lara Dalton MLA said the capped prices make life easier for everyone.

“All of us in Geraldton know just how expensive it is to fly to Perth and return. The cost is a real challenge for many - often making it difficult to visit family and friends, holiday or take a business trip,” she said.

“This new initiative makes sure that Geraldton people pay no more than $199 each way for a return trip to Perth, when using the airlines taking part in the program.

“This is an issue that has been talked about for a long time - and I’m very proud to be part of the McGowan Government that is delivering capped airfares for the regions.”

Capped airfares between Geraldton and Perth are available for flights from July 2022 and can be purchased already. Airfares must be booked as a return fare that departs and returns to the same regional destination. Travel under the Zone Cap is for personal reasons only.

Regional residents can still access sale or lower fares below the capped prices, however the Regional Airfare Zone Cap provides certainty and affordability to fly to Perth at capped fares if needed.

The State Government has committed $19.8 million in funding for regional flights to and from Perth over the next three years.
