Those in the Midwest will be able to pay tribute to the ANZACs in-person this year following the Geraldton RSL Sub-Branch’s confirmation of the popular Dawn and Main Services.
ANZAC Day commemorations will commence with the Dawn Service at 6am, followed by the Main Service at 11am at Birdwood House on Monday 25 April 2022.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn is looking forward to the services.
“ANZAC Day is one of our most significant events on the calendar as it gives us the opportunity to come together as a nation and recognise those who made the ultimate sacrifice in preserving our way of life,” he said.
“I am looking forward to the return of our customary ANZAC Day program so we may mark the occasion in the time honoured fashion.
“I encourage those who can to join us at Birdwood House so we may pay our respects to our brave servicemen and women.”
A wreath-laying ceremony will be preceded by the traditional march commencing at Dome Café on the Geraldton Foreshore at 10.40am and continuing along Forrest Street before finishing at Birdwood House on Chapman Road.
People wishing to attend the ceremony are encouraged to wear masks and socially distance where possible. Those feeling unwell or who are unable to attend are urged to listen to the live broadcast from the RSLWA service in Kings Park on Triple M Radio between 5.55am – 6.30am.
An ANZAC Day Service will also be held in Mullewa commencing with an ANZAC Day Breakfast at 7.30am at the Mullewa Recreation Centre, followed by a march stepping off from Mullewa District Office at 10.45am, before concluding at Memorial Park with the ANZAC Day Service at 11am.
