Shibori / Indigo Workshops with Cathy Moon

You can book for 1 day, 2 days or book for all 3 days. It's up to you. 

 

Day 1 - 12 July

Demonstration of setting up and caring for the Indigo Vat. Participants will learn basic shibori techniques of Arashi, Bomaki, Itajime, binding and wrapping as well as an introduction to basic stitching such as Mokume, Maki-Age, and Ori-Nui. We will also cover Shibori techniques for paper ie arashi and itajime (pole wrapping and clamping).

Day 2 - 13 July

Cathy will make up a half strength vat and show students how to use full and half strength vats to introduce blue tones into their Shibori designs and how to layer and build colour. The basic techniques will be revised as above and some more advanced techniques will be introduced such as Guntai stitching, Karamatsu Shibori and Twisted/pleated Arashi. Students continue to work on paper as well.

Day 3 - 14 July

Today will be spent consolidating all the techniques learnt over the past 2 days. Students will also be encouraged to develop their own shibori designs by combining techniques on fabric and/or paper.
