It’s just days until Rocks Laneway will be revealed to the community with the opening event set to showcase the capability of the brand new public space!

There will be entertainment galore from the newly refurbished Rocks building, through to the Ghost Office, Post Office Laneway and Geraldton Regional Art Gallery (GRAG).

And all of these elements are immersed in a spectacular metagraphic by renowned artist Trevor Richards.

With entertainers set to line the space, businesses in the CBD are also invited to open their doors for the celebration.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said Rocks Laneway will unlock plenty of potential for the precinct.

“Not only is this laneway creating a vital link from our amazing Foreshore through to the CBD, but it is also lending itself to create opportunities for local businesses,” he said.

“We are already seeing the benefits for local traders with the likes of the Murchison Tavern opening on the night and staying open long term.

“We’re also seeing a lot of business interest for buildings in Marine Terrace to be leased out for exciting new ventures.

“This project is all about stimulating our CBD and local business with vibrancy and activation, and we look forward to businesses opening on the night to see the full potential of the new Rocks Laneway development,” Mayor Van Styn added.

Kicking off from 5:30pm, Rocks Laneway will officially open to the public for the very first time.

Entertainment on the evening will include various musicians such as Intoku Productions and Ash Friesen. There will also be roving entertainers including Awakened Jellyfish’s live poetry, spectacular stilting, jugglers and more.

The brand new Post Office Lane Lightbox Gallery space will debut with Yamaji Art’s Ilgarijiri exhibition.

Geraldton Regional Art Gallery will open their doors for the event with Geraldton Camera Club’s FOCUS exhibition on display as well as an exhibition by Geraldton local Bruce Bradfield and the National Photographic Portrait Prize 2019.

A Rock Painting activity for kids will be on offer, plus a kid’s scavenger hunt with cash prizes.

The Geraldton Regional Library will take the community back through time with an outdoor heritage exhibition in the Art Gallery Park.

A special Welcome to Country ceremony which will include a smoking ceremony will take place to cleanse the area.

The Rocks Laneway grand reveal will take place on Friday 20 September 2019 from 5:30-7pm. For more information visit www.cgg.wa.gov.au
