Musicians who are looking to take their craft to the next level now have a fresh space to jam thanks to refurbishments at the PCYC studio.

The space, now dubbed B-Sharp Studio, is the evolution of an initiative that started up in 2017 in the lead up to the Battle of the Bands event.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn was excited to see what local talent will emerge as a result.

“B-Sharp Studio is a fantastic space that has been kitted out to provide up and coming musicians with the tools they need to hone their craft,” he said.

“Combine this space with the opportunity to play on stage at Battle of the Bands and you have the perfect conditions to shine a light on some truly great acts.”

The refurbishment sees the existing space at the PCYC decked out with new soundproofing and a digital recording interface that will give musicians the opportunity to record their music.

Local business Opus Music has also thrown their support behind the initiative by providing essential equipment for use at the studio.

Coinciding with the re-opening of the studio, Battle of the Bands 2018 is also making a comeback. Bands with a minimum of three members will perform at the QPT Amphitheatre on 28 October for a chance at winning $2,500 cash.

“If you’re a solo act who is keen to enter Battle of the Bands but you don’t really know anyone else, B-Sharp is the perfect place to meet your future bandmates,” said Mayor Van Styn.

“Get onto our website at www.cgg.wa.gov.au to register as an individual, or just call in to B-Sharp and say G’day.”

The studio is open every Monday and Wednesday from 3pm until 7pm and frequently attended by experienced musicians who act as mentors.

These refurbishments were made possible by a $10,000 grant from the Department of Communities and support from Geraldton PCYC and Opus Music.
