City of Greater Geraldton Council October 2023

Councillors as follows: Michael Librizzi, Jenna Denton, Steve Cooper, Simon Keemink, Natasha Colliver (Deputy Mayor), Jerry Clune (Mayor), Jennifer Critch, Peter Fiorenza, Victor Tanti, Aaron Horsman and Butch Parker.

Jerry Clune will lead the City of Greater Geraldton Council after being sworn in as Mayor last night at a Special Meeting of Council.

Making a commitment to a “united front”, City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Jerry Clune welcomed and congratulated five councillors who were also sworn onto Council.

“I am looking forward to working closely with Councillors and the community as a united front towards our common goals, representing our beloved region and pursuing a brighter future for all," he said.

“I have a strong belief in our Council and I look forward to the things we will achieve for our city with a collaborative approach.

“I would like to extend my appreciation to everyone who voted in support of my Mayoral candidacy, your trust and belief is the driving force behind my commitment to serve our vibrant community.”

Along with the swearing in of Mayor Clune and elected Councillors, Natasha Colliver was also sworn in as Deputy Mayor after being nominated by her fellow Councillors.

While there were four Councillor positions available, a fifth opened up as a result of Mayor Clune, who was already serving as a Councillor, being elected as Mayor.

Both Butch Parker and Simon Keemink were re-elected onto Council for a four year term.

Jenna Denton and Peter Fiorenza were newly elected onto Council for four year terms – with Fiorenza no stranger to the role having served as a Councillor from 2019 – 2021.

Aaron Horsman is also newly elected and being the fifth Councillor declared, will serve a two year term.

At last night’s Special Meeting, Mayor Clune welcomed the new and returning Councillors, and thanked outgoing Councillors for their time served on Council.

“I would like to extend my utmost thanks to Shane Van Styn for his tireless dedication throughout his time on Council which has laid the foundation for growth and progress,” he said.

“Bob Hall has served on Council for 22 years and oversaw two amalgamations in that time. He will certainly be missed and his service will not be forgotten.

“Tarleah Thomas and Mike Reymond, your passion and commitment to our community has made a lasting impact and I thank you for your service.”

Shane Van Styn exits Council after serving for 12 years. He was first elected as a Councillor in 2011 before being voted in as Mayor in 2015.

A total of 9,242 people voted in the local government election which equates to a turnout rate of 32%.

This year was the first time the voting system changed from first past the post to optional preferential voting.
