International director and writer to host workshop for theatre production

International director and writer Chris Edmund is hosting a writer’s workshop next month and experienced and emerging writers are encouraged to express their interest in attending.

The writer’s workshop will help form ideas for the City of Greater Geraldton’s new theatre work as well as capture the essence and character of the region.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said it was a great opportunity for local writers and collaborators.

“Geraldton is home to some brilliant storytellers and we want them to come to this workshop and help create the script for our new theatre work showcasing Geraldton,” he said.

“Chris Edmund has worked on productions that have toured globally and will take the lead on developing the script, but needs vital input from local writers.”

“It will be a delight to have him here, working with our creative minds to develop and identify the qualities that make Geraldton vibrant and unique.”

Last year the City called for community members, historians and innovative thinkers to attend an information session about the new theatre production focused on Geraldton.

This is the next step in developing the theatre work and those selected to attend will need to bring an example of their writing as well as collaborate on creating a short scene with another participant, which will be read and performed.

The writing workshop will take place from 10am to 5pm on Saturday 5 May at the Mezzanine of the Queens Park Theatre.

Places in the writing workshop are limited and those interested in participating should submit expressions of interest to the City’s Arts and Cultural Development Officer via marnied@cgg.wa.gov.au before Thursday 26 April.
