A new after-school initiative is set to inspire Geraldton’s youth through hands-on conservation, creativity and connection.
Reshape is a seven-week after school program empowering young people to explore environmental stewardship alongside mental wellbeing, art and community connection, beginning with a focus on the Chapman River Regional Park.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Jerry Clune is thrilled to see the new program get started.
“We are particularly blessed here in the Midwest with wonderful natural surroundings and this new initiative will help the next generation understand their role in caring for nature,” he said.
“Participants will take part in activities including a tree planting and creative workshops, gather salvaged materials from the area, then transform them into artworks whilst learning from local experts and mentors.
“I would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the amazing organisations as well as local creatives who have partnered with us to deliver this fantastic new program, and I encourage all our young folks who have an interest in the natural world to get on board.”
Reshape will run every Tuesday from 12 May to 23 June, between 3:30pm and 4:30pm, with afternoon tea provided.
The program will conclude with a public exhibition, celebrating the participants and their recycled artwork.
Reshape is proudly supported by Rio Tinto as part of its ongoing partnership with the City of Greater Geraldton to support youth-focused programs. The program is delivered in partnership with Northern Agricultural Catchments Council, Chapman River Friends, BirdLife Mid West, Yamatji Southern Regional Corporation and local artists.
