Those enjoying the new and improved Beresford Foreshore will have even more to appreciate following the installation of an award-winning sculpture.
The 1.5metre acrylic sphere named Horizon by artist Lucy Humphrey comes highly regarded and with a number of Sculpture by the Sea accolades.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said the creation was sure to delight.
“Those who come into contact with our newest piece of public art are sure to be charmed as many have been across the nation,” he said.
“This very big, clear sphere turns the world upside down because of the water inside and how the light reflects off it.
“Public art was high on the community’s list of wants at Beresford Foreshore and Horizon sets the scene for what is more to come at the stretch.”
Community members who provided feedback at the Beresford Foreshore Master Planning session expressed their desire for an art trail.
This is the first step in delivering that, with a number of other locations along the stretch being marked for future public art. There will be opportunities for Aboriginal artwork along the promenade named “Jambinbirri Walk” late last year.
Horizon is be located closest to Dean Street and builds on the Donor Memorial, also featuring a sphere, at the Stella Maris Drive entrance.
The City of Greater Geraldton would like to thank Mid West Ports Authority and the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development for the project funding.
