It’s been nearly two years since the iconic Rocks Laneway transformed Marine Terrace and thanks to The Geraldton Project, the space continues to activate and revitalise the CBD.

Signing on for another year as Place Managers, The Geraldton Project have led the campaign of activation activities which has seen nearly 10,000 community members visit Rocks Laneway since it opened in 2019.

From live music, arts and crafts, science and so much more delivered through workshops, DIY sessions and performances, Rocks Laneway has become a well-known hub for vibrancy.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn eagerly welcomed The Geraldton Project on for another 12 months and said the organisation had added a different element of liveliness to the city centre.

“We knew Rocks Laneway would be a hit in our community but with the innovation and enthusiasm of the team at The Geraldton Project – the space has been taken to a new level,” he said.

“Not only do the stats prove this success, but the positive community sentiment that surrounds the Laneway speaks volumes.

“We welcome The Geraldton Project back for another 12 months and we look forward to seeing the continuation of activation and vibrancy in our CBD.”

Since coming on board, the Geraldton Project have delivered 317 place making activations which have resulted in 4,747 participants and 9,497 spectators utilising the space. This has resulted in a total engagement of 14,254 community members and visitors to the CBD.

David Bowman-Bright from The Geraldton Project attributed the success of the activation to the wide range of engaging activities on offer.

“We’re continuing to work with local artists, community groups, organisations and individuals to offer diverse and creative activities for the Geraldton community,” he said.

“Things such as the MAKE+MEND program, basket weaving, Artist in Residence workshops and making your own bee hotels are just some of the unique activities that people have enjoyed.

“We thank both the City of Greater Geraldton and the wonderful community for being so open and willing to engage and contribute to activities at Rocks Laneway.”

Upcoming events in the space include Live and Local sessions with a different musician each week, a young artist studio bringing ocean creatures to life and a free family fun day.
